hi … i was re-treading comments and discovered a comment you made about lake michigan being different on the wisconsin side. i’m intrigued. i would guess that the reason it’s different is because the western winds push the lake water against the shoreline of michign, creating more sand, wider beaches and lots of dunes.
i’ve never heard this before. tell me more. what is the shoreline like?
have you seen pictures of the great dunes in northern michigan … ? (not the upper peninsula … ) around the traverse city area? dunes two hundred feet or more high that stretch inland for miles. they are spectacular! these giant dunes give evidence of the tremendous power of that body of water … almost unimaginable … during the primal ages thousand and thousands of of years also. er
as to the cottage. yes … we feel fortunate that we have the place and when we’re up here there’s always a moment when one of us will stop … look around, shake our heads and acknowledge our good fortune.
let me know if you would like to spend a few days at the place. we rent our place over the summer … i’d love to just give it to another ‘lake lover’. i can’t BUT i could give you a very very generous discount if you want to see what lake huron is all about. i mean it!

Well, I am in Milwaukee – it is very city-like here! I am guessing there is a lot of lakefill, as in Chicago. The shoreline itself is big rocks, like they were brought in from elsewhere. No dunes here!
