It’s a long way from Key West to Fort Kent, Maine – the other end of U.S. 1 (not that I would really know – Choppy and I didn’t actually drive the entire length. We just ended up at both ends).

The night after that picture was one of the longest of our trip. It turns out, there is nothing near Fort Kent. As in, I couldn’t find a hotel that would take Choppy (there were plenty of things near Fort Kent: trees, crops, Canadians…).
Long after dark – and a fair bit into the next day – we finally found a place many hours from Fort Kent to spend the night. It was a non-descript hotel room, and yet I remember how grateful I was to get there. It’s amazing how much exhaustion and frustration can contribute to happiness.
Also? Choppy randomly found a dog treat behind the bed in that room. I’m pretty sure that is still her favorite hotel room ever.

How funny to find a treat under the bed, Choppy! I don’t look under hotel beds. .. There may be monsters under there!

She is the only one in this house brave enough to look under a hotel bed!
