We have liftoff!
The babies have all left the nest (they were hanging with Mama in a nearby tree). I managed to get pictures of the last one to go before it joined its siblings, but our front porch is quiet again now, and I am not getting berated by Mama Robin every time I need to water the plants.

(Note: we did have a little adventure with the last one to go – after I took that top picture, it jumped out of its nest without full ability to fly, though it was pretty close. Choppy decided a robin snack might be a good idea when she saw it, but I saved it before Choppy could have her way. I replaced it in the nest, where you can see the baby stayed before joining everyone else.)
Hopefully Mama Robin saw you save her young-one!

Oh, she did – and you would have thought I was murdering the poor thing, based on her reaction!

Choppy was probably wondering “what the heck Mom????”

She definitely did not understand why I would prevent her little bit of “fun.”

I am glad Choppy is not fleet of foot – a cat would have had it for sure!

Kamakazee Pete was a blue tit chick that didn’t quite make it on the fledgling flight. Barney came and fetched us as it was a sitting duck for predators such as jays and magpies. Hubby picked it up in a tee towel and put it back in the nesting box. Poor little soul got it in stereo from Mum and Dad until he took off and joined his siblings……… all 14 of them that first year! Great pics Sarah. Glad they all made it.

14 babies! Now that’s a full house (/nest)!

It was indeed, and I saw them all fledge, apart from Pete who probably woke up and wondered where everyone had gone!

Maybe Choppy was just trying to save the bird too!!!!

I would like to think that, but the trail of dead bunnies and mice in her wake suggests otherwise.

Sure…just like she helped all those bunnies in the same way.

Shew. Sounds like a close call. I’m glad you were able to save it from Choppy’s jaws. Mom would have probably attacked otherwise.

I’m glad I was right there – Choppy was VERY excited at the prospect of a new “toy.”

Apropos of almost noting, when our youngest daughter was in grade school she was tasked with memorizing a song and then standing before the class and declaring the lyrics as a form of poetry. Not being a particularly ambitious child she chose “Fly, Robin, Fly” by the groups Silver Connection. (1975 is you must know, whippersnapper.) Below are all the lrics of the song:
Fly, robin fly
Fly, robin fly
Fly, robin fly
Up, up to the sky
Repeat ad infinitum. It was disco, what else can I say?

It must have given her confidence to pull that off!

You need to start somewhere!

Ha! I do like her choice – it seems like a rather smart choice (if a little lazy).

Long may they fly. You shall get good karma for saving them, especially the last one

I was happy to save it – Choppy has plenty of toys, she doesn’t need one that was alive.

Yes! And I can go back to watering my plants without getting yelled at by Mama.

Yikes, I would never have guessed Choppy to snack on a robin baby. Schooner, yes, but Choppy no.

I think it was in less danger of being a snack than being Choppy’s latest, short-lived squeaky toy.

Good for you saving the baby robin. Hoping it is ready to fly before it takes off again.

I think it was – it was very close when I put him back.
