I had a terrier that ALWAYS had one of those little chipmunk toys in his mouth. He loved them so much . I guess it was a call back to the roots of the bread as a rodent hunter. I can’t see those little chipmunks without getting a little misty; my terrier died a year ago.
Choppy – I’m not sure you pull off the look (squirrel among chipmunks) but I admire the sentiment! Is that like a wolf in sheep’s clothing?
These were some of Choppy’s first toys – I actually put them away most of the time so she doesn’t destroy them. I already get a little misty thinking of her as a pup. I’m sure it’s so much worse for you, now that your pup is gone.
It wasn’t easy typing this comment holding Tucker back from the enthusiasm he displayed as he read (and I responded) to this post. He strongly supports Squirrel Appreciation Day!!
Tucker would probably, like Choppy, more fully enjoy this holiday if the squirrels were somehow incorporated into mealtime (though Choppy will have to actually catch one first – something which has never happened over nearly a decade of squirrel chasing).
Tucker only “trees squirrels.” Since I MUST keep him on a leash (beagles’ noses take over their minds making training nearly impossible) he never had the opportunity of getting close enough to catch any of these cute critters. When he barks at Rottweilers, I just tell him he’s nuts!
At least Tucker is somewhat large – you should see some of the tiny dogs who think it’s a good idea to mess with Choppy. She could eat them for breakfast and wonder where the rest of it is.
We don’t need any more – our collection seems to have fattened up on all the bird food out at the feeders. I suspect their numbers will only increase as it is, without extra support!
Cute outfit. Choppy is cute in anything she wears! Tippy likes to chase squirrels too. They are too quick to find a tree to climb to be caught though, thank goodness.
Sweet Choppy to get all decked out in that outfit for Squirrel Appreciation Day is nothing short of amazing. You are the most cooperative furry sweetie I have ever seen. I know the squirrels surely won’t mind you chasing them after putting forth the effort you did to bring attention to their special day. Hugs and nose kisses and some tummy tickles too….you earned them.
Oh my gosh.. I could NOT stop laughing… This is too much fun. #CutenessOverload I love you, Choppy. ❤

I can’t bear to throw them away, but it disturbs me to see them in Another dog’s mouth.

Oh, that would be awful. I can see why you don’t like it.

I’m so glad they’re quick to find a tree, or it would regularly be a squirrel massacre in the backyard, thanks to Choppy’s constant chasing of them.

Had me laughing – Carwyn says we’d have to catch him first – faster than a squirrel.

Choppy is definitely NOT faster than a squirrel, much to her chagrin (and continued inability to catch them).

Sooo Choppy is now modeling for Chipmunks or Squirrels! LOL! Choppy is a good sport really!

She really is – particularly because she does show a lot of dislike toward squirrels normally.
