On this day in 1914, a pitcher named Babe Ruth debuted for the Boston Red Sox, going seven innings and giving up five hits. A few years later, Babe Ruth was traded to the New York Yankees, stopped pitching and switched to the outfield. In New York, Babe Ruth went down in history as one of the greatest hitters to ever play the game.

And this is as good an excuse as any to post this picture.
