Even though May is not quite over, we’re all done with the May photos for our Backyard View project. As you can see, once the snow finally stopped in April, things greened up quickly – there is quite a dramatic change from the beginning of April until now. Enjoy!
Backyard View: May 2018

Is it one lake or two Sarah?

It’s supposed to be a pond and a river, but you would definitely not know that these days.

Do you get swans and geese or just ducks?

Lots of ducks and geese, but no swans that I have seen. If we were to get them, it would be on their migration (or as escapees from the zoo). We do have a lot of herons and egrets as well back there. I scared a heron up this morning when I went to fill my bird feeders. I think he scared me flying off more than I scared him!

Maggie came practically nose to beak with one on the marina. Ugly brute close up and they take the baby ducklings. She didn’t flinch, but the heron as pretty surprised!

Yours must be far less scared than ours – I rarely see them before they are in the air and trying to get away from me.

They were used to people on the marina all the time. We had one in each basin, but whether they were actually a mating pair I have no idea as we never saw any little ones. Apparently the reason why our egyptian geese/ducks didn’t have any young was because they were both male!

Very cool slide show. Seems you (along with a lot of other states) had two winters. Beautiful yard. Love all the growth on the trees. 🙂

It got very hot last week, and we all had to keep reminding each other when we complained that there had been snow on the ground just over a month earlier!

I sit mesmerised at the change in your backyard over time

It’s amazing – I’m glad I started this last year. When you live with it, the changes don’t seem as dramatic as they do when you see the days all spliced together.

Thanks! I’m looking forward to having a pond and river again, instead of the “rivond” we currently have.

It’s amazing how quickly nature goes into action when the snows stop and the landscape becomes lush and verdant in a matter of seemingly moments!

And yet, when you watch it in person, it seems to happy gradually. Being able to see the major changes has been an unexpected bonus of this project over the last year and a half.

I propose to follow your lead now that I’m settled in my new(old) place. I probably won’t share but I’m sure it will bring perspective to us

I, for one, wouldn’t object if you did share. 😉 Either way, I think you will thoroughly enjoy seeing the changes.

I may do ,…. it depends how well I do with using whatever technology needs to be used which is always the biggest obstacle to success with me!

I love seeing the transition week to week. It is quite amazing, esp. this last month.

It got green so fast this year – I don’t recall it being quite so quick last year.

Very dramatic changes in May, for sure! Glad the snow is finally gone…at least I hope it is.

If it starts snowing again, I think everyone in Wisconsin is moving south.

….so amazing what happens when temps get warmer and nature starts her green display

And it happens so quickly on film (in person, it seems much more gradual).

Thanks! We do love it (even if it is currently a mosquito breeding ground because they have yet to come and spray).

Glad things are finally coming to life and that you can finally enjoy the outdoors without a heavy jacket !

No heavy jacket required – though some days, maybe a mosquito net!
