Weekend Wildlife: Happy Ducks

The advantage of having webbed feet and being a Puddle Duck.

I am OK with having to stay on my side of the pond if it means I don’t have webbed feet.

Cute! We’ve got some new ducklings and goslings on the lake again today. But worrying not to see momma duck with the latest batch of tiny furballs though (not the ones I photographed the other day, these are too small)

Some of the first goslings here have reached adult-like sizes. But we’re still getting new batches of ducklings regularly.

We’re getting both. It’s wonderful.

Talk about getting your ducks in a row.

We are happy for the ducks but hope your walks aren’t detoured for long

It was still a little wet there this weekend so our detour continued. We probably could have gotten through had we wanted to, but we just headed elsewhere rather than slop through the mud.

It’s interesting how ducks find puddles of water after the rain instead of staying on a pond or in a creek or river. I’d think they’d rather be where there were fish to eat. (I assume they eat fish. Perhaps I should look up duck diets. LOL)

The mallards don’t – and that’s mostly what we have. Based on my unscientific knowledge (read: what I’ve seen them eat), they eat bird seed and stuff people throw to them (like potato chips). Supposedly, others with legitimate websites seem to think they eat insects, seeds, and plants.

Hahaha Your observations are probably more accurate. They are a lot like people, and take the easy way out when it is available.
