Things are starting to change in the backyard with the arrival of fall. We had our first frost this last week, and it killed off the algae on the pond (as seen in the last picture on the video, which is also the header picture). Hopefully, we’re still a few weeks out from the return of the frozen pond.

Over last summer, I loved watching the Tuesday View posts of Eliza’s Garden at her website (which, in turn, is part of a regular feature at Cathy’s blog, Words and Herbs). Inspired by that, I thought it would be interesting to take a weekly picture of our backyard to see how it changes throughout the year. So, every Tuesday (or Wednesday, when I forget on Tuesday), I’ll head back there and take a picture. It turns out, I won’t quite get 52 pictures, but even with a few months to go, the changes over the course of the year are dramatic, as you can see from the video below!

We’re quickly returning to those days. Far too quickly for my taste!

Very nice gallery 🙂 Now sort of looks like it did at the beginning of April 🙂

It does – if only we were in those April days…instead of heading toward the January ones.

you are blessed to have such a beautiful yard and I love your pond or lake or whatever it is! 🙂

We really are – and the pond is much nicer when it isn’t algae-covered. Winter may be its prettiest time of year, so long as it freezes (and you can enjoy it from inside or while ice skating).

Nice. Love the ducks on the pond in the last picture.

I love it when there are animals out there for a picture. I think there is one spring picture where there is a heron hiding on the other side of the pond, but I don’t remember which one.

This keeps getting better and better as you add more images. The winter/spring flooding, followed by the chockerblock lush green of summer is what stands out the most.

I’m so glad I did it (even though I missed several weeks). Last year, the pond froze in December, so we’ll see if we get another freeze before the year ends.

They are – without the pictures, they seem to happen so gradually you don’t notice them. But with the pics, you can see everything change.

Great idea! Love the video! It’s amazing to observe the changes in fast forward and I love how everthing started to look lush green from May on. Even the algae added for a nice color in the palette. 😄

The algae is better in the picture than in real-life – it would be nice to have a clear pond all year. It attracts a lot more bird-life when there isn’t green scum on it.

Thanks – we like it (though it is a mosquito breeding ground for much of the summer!).

I’m so glad I started taking the pictures – I mean, I know what the general changes are over the year, but to see them all at once is a whole different experience.
