This is the second entry in the Backyard View set of posts – I have to say, things tend to look pretty similar in these photos. Lots of water, snow and plants that are definitely still in their winter clothing.

Over last summer, I loved watching the Tuesday View posts of Eliza’s Garden at her website (which, in turn, is part of a regular feature at Cathy’s blog, Words and Herbs). Inspired by that, I thought it would be interesting to take a weekly picture of our backyard to see how it changes throughout the year. So, every Tuesday, I’ll head back there and take a picture. Then, at the end of the year (if I manage to keep this up), I’ll have 52 pictures to combine into a slideshow of how the yard changes throughout the year!

You have a pretty view….would be nice to see the changes…even “every other week photos!”

I have considered doing the posts more often – they take a little bit longer to put together than some, so it may stay this way (particularly as I have more pictures to include).

Cool to see the changes 🙂

I really mostly did it for myself – I’m fascinated at how much the yard changes, living here for a year. By summer, you won’t even be able to see the river back there!

This is such an amazing idea Sarah…looking forward to the pics 🙂

I’m looking forward to them, too – this is really a post I did so I can see how it looks back there over the course of a year. I mean, I have a general idea of what it looks like, but this way I may be able to see even more of the changes.

All that is your backyard? Lotta open space is wonderful.
My thought while looking at the photo, Where’s Choppy? Sorry, I couldn’t resist. 😉

It is the backyard!
If ever there is a picture where Choppy is hiding, I’ll make sure to put it in the post so everyone can look for her. She hasn’t been out there in any so far (usually, she is standing right next to me on the deck where I take the photos from).

That’s a cool plan…I like that idea. Will give you a good sense of what does well and what needs to be tweaked.

Exactly! And it will be cool to see the house through the year come December.

Thanks! I am really enjoying it so far – though I’ve already forgotten to take a photo one morning and had to do it the next day. Something tells me it won’t be the last time that happens!

One day want matter. By the way, I like the new look! 🙂

I don’t think it will, either.
And thanks – I like this setup. I think it will work better now that I post a couple times a day. I think it’s less likely people miss posts, and more likely they get to see the features they like most!

Has the river overflowed into your back yard? Looks like you could get some good skating done there, if it is solid enough.

It has – that’s pretty much a given this time of year. It will recede once we get past winter. Unless there is a lot of flooding, I don’t think it would get much higher than this.

That’s a great idea! Mine would go from dirt + long grass + chicken poo to worse, pretty much 😀

Ha! I’m sort of hopeful these posts will encourage me to take better care of it back there – namely, but planting something other than what just grows on its own!

It is amazing to see the changes even week to week. The yo-yo weather helps…not a ‘normal’ (what is that?) winter at all.

As soon as I figure out what a normal winter is, I’ll let you know. I wouldn’t hold your breath on that one, though!

Me, neither.

You’ve got a lake now, opposed to the normal pond! Be sure to note this situation when/if you plant back there. Lots of plants would be POed with soggy roots all winter.

I think this year I’m going to focus on the side of the pond closest to the house – it’s wet, but not over the winter. It might be flooded once in a while, but not every year. Plus, being closest, it’s the easiest to take care of. Not that laziness would ever play into my decisions…

This is a beautiful view and behind the trees the sky is lovely! Great idea about time and how you’ll have 52 photos for a montage. 🙂 🙂

I’m looking forward to seeing it go quickly at the end of the year!
