Paul and I are finishing up a little getaway for New Year’s – we hope you all had a good night and only the best is in store for 2017!
Date: December 30, 2016
Location: Kohler, Wisconsin
Length: 1.3 Miles
Temperature: 33° F (.5° C), feels like 72° F (22.2° C) because I totally walked inside
Who: Sarah

Hi Sarah – Just of curiosity… how many miles did you walk in 2016? 🙂

I don’t know! I haven’t added the most recent totals into the number (that Elf kept me busy throughout December). Let me do some calculations and get back to you.

Drum roll…444.5 miles! And that’s not the whole year, just since we started in May. I should really do a post on this (consider this a sneak preview).

Yes… you should absolutely do a Post on that. It might just inspire others when they see how regular walks can mount up over time to be an impressive total distance! Well done! 🙂

Thanks! I think I’ll incorporate the numbers into the Dog Walk Challenge post for tomorrow, and spread the word far and wide!

Thanks! And we do our best to stay warm, but some days it’s a losing battle.

I bet. Cold front is coming here the end of this week. Brrrr! Highs are 20. Yuck.

46 here; we walked 3.3 miles. But no kudos, it’ll be in the single digits in a couple days and I’m sure the wusses will whine and wine inside. LOL Happy tread milling.

I was back outside this morning – it was 27 and no wind, which is downright beautiful this time of year. I probably should have walked a little extra, but that darkness really makes it hard to keep going. I keep telling myself that it’s only a few more weeks before the sun will be our companion again.

Every day there’s another minute of sunlight and I’ve already noticed it first thing in the morning. Enjoy those windless mid-20’s temps while you can. Happy first work week of the year. 😉

I can now barely see the first rays of daylight at the end of our walks. I was a little overly happy to see them at the end of last week, but it’s the time of year when I take any hint of warmer weather to come (knowing full well there is colder weather to come before the warm weather arrives!).

Our coldest (and snowiest) months are ahead here too. January is just dark and cold with little snow. Emphasis on the cold part. Blech.

That describes January here as well. February is a real mixed bag – you can get the frigid weather, but you can also get major snow. There’s also a chance for a legitimately warm day or two, which makes everyone get their hopes up that winter is over, just to realize there are two months to go.

Precisely! March and April (when everyone is jonesing for Spring-like weather) are the real wildcards. Can’t tell you how many double digit snow storms have happened in those months. ❄️

Or how many days where it hits 70 randomly! (Sometimes, just a day after those snow storms!)

Which make spring storms the best!

33F is positively balmy! 😉 Must have got an exercise walker for Christmas?

Yup! Paul set me up the treadmill last week. I still like the outside walks (I went on one this morning), but it’s nice to have the option for some warmer walks!

Exactly, you’re all set. Now, time to train Choppy on it. 🙂

Hahaha. Don’t blame you for walking inside. Kudos for walking while on your “getaway.” I have a hard time exercising when I’m away from home.

Some places it is easier than others – it seems a lot of hotels are in areas where they just thought sidewalks are superfluous. These tend to be the hotels along the busiest streets, or so it seems!

Now that is crazy cold !!! I probably would be venturing out from under my duvet in that cold…hahaha I would pull a Choppy move and just be chilling on the couch 🙂

Ha! If I didn’t go out in that sort of weather, I’d be stuck inside for weeks at a time around here! Of course, I think there are people who do attempt not to go out in it, even here. It would drive me crazy!

It’s about 50 here in California, threatening rain. I’m thinking of skipping my dog walk.
