On this day in history, the Second Continental Congress established the U.S. Postal Service. Considering the storied history of dogs and postal workers, I think we should celebrate this day!

Imagine the celebrations when the first letter/package went into “the system”! Imagine a whole postal service, just waiting from coast to coast, not knowing where the first envelope/package will be going, or even where it will start from!

Love it! Made me think of that movie (??) where the resident terrier would shred the mail after the carrier put it through the slot! My dog Wren goes nuts when the mailman comes by. It must be in the DNA. 😉

I’ve seen some videos on Youtube of these sorts of dogs. At the new house, the mail is at the curb, so Choppy doesn’t always realize the mailman has arrived. If she does, well, it is barking time!

Wren just ‘hears’ the mail truck and she goes ballistic. The other day, I was walking her and I got a rope burn from the leash when she lunged at him when he drove by. I thought I had a good grip, but wasn’t on it like I needed to be. What is it about the mailman??

I am not sure our mailman has a noisy enough truck for Choppy. Now, UPS? A completely different story. I brace myself when we see them coming on a walk!

I try to take photographs of post offices in small towns. I think the one in Magnetic Springs, OH is really cute and then, next week on Thursday’s Doors, I have a post office in Ashley, Ohio. I think this was a sweet public service message, Sarah 🙂

There is an awesome one along U.S. 41 in the Everglades if you ever make it there (and I highly recommend the road – alligators everywhere). I think it’s one of the smallest post offices in the U.S.
