You know those mornings when you’re up and about, and even though it is still pleasant, you know the day is going to be hot and unpleasant shortly? Day 49 was definitely one of those days. Glad we got our walk in early!
Date: June 18, 2016
Location: Home
Length: 2.4 Miles
Who: Sarah & Choppy
We’re only like 1/3 of the way done with our walk at this point, and Choppy already looks exhausted.Looks like the corn is Choppy high by the 4th of July! (For those who don’t know, there’s a saying that refers to corn as “Knee high by the 4th of July” – it’s how tall it needs to be for a good crop at the end of the season. I am thinking Choppy high is also a good indicator.)
Yup! Choppy high by June 18 should be a saying. Ha ha!
I guess I did my dog walk challenge yesterday by bringing the boys to the dog park. It was beautiful.
She does – I don’t understand, as she walks on both sometimes, why she usually chooses to walk on the concrete. It’s particularly bewildering on a sunny day when that has to be hot on her paws!
I know! I understand with my old boy SL, because the road is flatter for his wobbly legs.
Maybe in a dog’s mind they are actually being a wolf and the road is their path? I watched my previous old boy Jack who’d got off the lead once, as he trotted down the Centre of the road! Luckily no cars. He loped like he owned that road! 🙂
Don’t dogs own everywhere they go? I mean, unless it is guarded by a particularly nasty cat.
Choppy tends to head for the grass if I let her off leash on a road or path, which is bizarre considering her predilection for the path when she is on-leash. But if we’re on a hike, she tends to stay on the path and avoid anything but the edge of the woods or grass.
I think they don’t want to get lost. 🙂 But LM on a hike – next thing I know she is across the stream and up the other side of the bank, way over there . . . 🙂
That sounds about right for us – we are supposed to get storms today, but those tend to be pretty scattered. We may or may not get any rain with them if they happen to miss us.
Generally not on these walks, as we’re close to home and there is water along the way if she really needs it. If we were to walk this long somewhere away from home, or that I didn’t know the water situation, I would definitely bring along water for her.

It was – though I could do with less heat most of these days. Today we have clouds and the temperature is more to my liking!

It looks like it will be here, if the fields around us are any indication. In our own garden, we have some very large tomato plants these days!

I see Choppy also walks on the concrete instead of the cooler grass.
She looks good as a corn-measure 🙂

I think it’s an apt measurement!

Your day looks as hot as ours has been. Hot, Humid, and plenty of sunshine. We could use a little rain. I love the new corn measurements.

I understand what you mean. When you walk like that, do you give her water to stay hydrated, just curious.
Take care.
