At some point in my life, I moved with seeming regularity – into a dorm room in August or September, out of a dorm room in May or June. I moved overseas for study abroad and I moved for work. When I spent two years in the same apartment after law school in my late 20’s, it was a cause for celebration, as it was by far the longest I had continuously lived in one place since turning 18.
Then, I bought a house and stayed put for six years in one house. I forgot how horrible it was to move.
Last year, we started the cycle of moving again when Paul moved to my house after we got married. Then, we moved out of the house and into storage sheds and an apartment. As of this weekend, we are all back in one house. Unfortunately, while movers got everything into the house, we’re responsible for unpacking.
It is not a small or quick job.

I agree wholeheartedly- there is a major purge about to happen!

Stuff. It’s wonderful when it’s all organized, but such a chore to get it organized. Hang in there!

It is a chore I want to completely ignore!

Hi Sarah,
Good luck with your unpacking. I know how this goes, and how much work it is. Somehow, for us it seemed to take much longer than packing.
Have a great time,
Pit

Thank you! And I am guessing it will be months before we are entirely unpacked – our basement has more boxes than any two people should have!

Been there, done that, bought a boat, stuff problem solved, charity shops happy. 😀

I like this plan…especially if the boat is in Key West!

Wow Sarah, you are one strong woman. Moving is one of the hardest things to do but you are doing it. Well done & good luck

Well, we moved some of it. Then we wised up and hired others to do the rest (except the unpacking, which is something I now wish I had hired people to do as well!).

When I bought my house, I knew that I’d never move again. Literally, my inheritors can do the work when I die. I’m not even apologetic about it – moving is THAT horrible.

I know that moving feeling only too well – like 22 times! The best way is to look upon each box/case/parcel as a birthday gift! I wonder what’s in here? 😀

That’s pretty much the way it is going to go – somewhere, there are shoes. So I am viewing that as a major incentive. It will be like the greatest gift ever when I find those (and who knows what else along the way)!

I love the way you unpack! 🍹

Unfortunately, it means little has been unpacked – but it is a far more pleasant task than it would be without the booze!

If moving/unpacking is involved, I’m really hoping that glass is at least a foot high and you’re on your third one.
Hope everything goes well.

Oh, no worried on the alcohol front. We have been using that as the oil to get us through this.

If I never had to move again, it would be too soon.

Good job, Choppy. Sometimes staying out of the way and taking a nap is a big help.

I think she should make herself useful by fetching more drinks.

Oh..I share your feeling, good thing you can still have a glass of cocktail in your hand 😉 I am afraid I will be in your position (to move) by the end of the year..and I think it’s better to move in the summer time than winter time!!

Oh, summer is definitely better – we moved a bunch of furniture into the old apartment on one of the coldest days of the year this last winter. It was horrible!

Unpacking is one of the worst things ever! However, having a glass of cocktail is sure a great way to relax a bit before giving your headache to unpack. haha Choppy is lucky dog who doesn’t need to do anything (simply enjoy her life to the fullest) 😀

It’s really a good life if you can lead it! Dogs have the unpacking situation down!
