Last week, I found myself in Door County, Wisconsin for a legal conference. If you don’t know where Door County is, it’s the peninsula that sticks out of Wisconsin into Lake Michigan.

That part of Wisconsin.
That part of Wisconsin.

Sadly, Choppy couldn’t come to the conference, so she stayed at my parents’ house (which she enjoyed thoroughly, and not just because there is a cat to chase. Though I am sure that played a significant role in her enjoyment of the weekend).

But just because she wasn’t there, doesn’t mean she wasn’t in our thoughts. The Visitors’ Bureau has lots of dog-friendly hotels, and we saw many, many dogs at restaurants, enjoying a meal with their families. There is even a pet-friendly part of their blog, so you can see the many awesome things to do with your pet while there.

All this is to say, next time? Choppy is coming with us.

I, of course, stopped in to the Door County Dog Store. They had this very cool set of pools for the pups. Choppy would probably complain about the lack of dirty water in the pools.

One of the more famous places in Door County is Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant and Butik, where they have a sod roof and natural lawn mowers in the form of goats. Obviously, we had to stop and see those!

One popular activity in Door County is a fish boil. Here's a link that discusses what that is, and includes a picture of the very large fire that typically accompanies them. As you can see from this picture, sometimes things go slightly wrong with the fire portion of the fish boil.
