And no, I don’t have a better understanding of how to pronounce Ho’opi’i than you do.

Paul and I decided to take a hike to Ho’opi’i Falls – an easy hike on Kaua’i – as part of our trip. “Choppy” didn’t go on this particular trip (because I forgot her).

It's not so bad that she was stuck at the house. She's got a view of the ocean and lots of yard to play in.

Our first issue was that we had no idea where the trailhead was – it is located in a neighborhood, and there was no marking of the actual trail. We did find it eventually.

This is the trailhead. It was not as inconspicuous as we first thought it was. What with all the red and white reflective tape.

The hike was not the most vigorous of all hikes, but considering I’ve been stuck in a house for most of the last few months, that was probably a good thing.

The views were excellent. Then again, when it's February and you live in Wisconsin, we could have been looking at a garbage dump in good weather and it would have been an excellent view.

The jungle: gorgeous. Also? Throughout the hike you could hear chickens (because: Kaua'i). You could also hear cardinals, which is a bit odd (because: not the Midwest).

Within a few minutes of starting the hike, we were rewarded with our arrival at a waterfall.

Not the largest waterfall ever, but...

...you can jump into it from the rocks above! Had I known this, a swimsuit would have been worn for the hike.

There are a second set of falls at Ho’opi’i Falls a bit down the path (apparently, Ho’opi’i Falls is the name used for both, which is rather confusing).

The other Ho'opi'i Falls. Bigger than the previous ones, but without the awesome ability to jump off of a rock into the water below.

Next time, I remember my swimsuit.

Frog! (This has nothing to do with the rest of the post. I just saw this guy while on the hike and wanted to put his picture online).
