In our first installment of Choppy by Number last week, I looked at how many times Choppy barked over the course of a day. This week, I decided to determine how many treats I gave Choppy on a random day.

I should start by noting that Choppy loves her treats. I am pretty sure she could eat an unlimited number of them over the course of any given day, should she be given that option. As a result, I do make at least some attempt to limit how many she has, because I really want to indulge her more or less constantly throughout the day. That said, I knew I fed her a larger number than was probably recommended. I just didn’t know how many, so I thought keeping track of the number I fed her would prove enlightening.

It did. Just not in a very good way.

It turns out, Choppy does get more than an average number of treats over the course of a day. A lot more. Seriously. A LOT MORE.

If you go by weight, Choppy should have 14-17.5. We'll ignore the 1-5 recommended treats, because things are still going to get very bad for me even with the larger number.

And really, this label isn’t very clear on the whole treat issue. So I think I am totally justified in this decision).

I’ll just come right out and say it. Over the course of the day, Choppy had 31 treats.

Yes, 31.

No dog needs that many treats. [Note: if Choppy could talk, this is where she would pipe up to note that she doesn’t need 31 treats. She needs more]

Unfortunately, it gets worse, because she got more than just these treats. She had her two daily cans of dog food, some raw meat, some rice and a piece of candy corn (yes, I marked that down when she unexpectedly ate it).
I can’t eat that much, and I weigh twice as much as she does.

I think we can call this one official: I have been treat-shamed. It’s time to cut out some of Choppy’s daily treats.

[Note: In related news, how soon until there is a “Choppy by Number” in which we detail Choppy’s weight loss? I’m guessing sooner rather than later]

Choppy ate this treat. After reading this, you shouldn't be surprised.
