I would suggest NOT helping him down. Not unless you want to get a bunch of claws in you.

Well, in a similar situation I had to help our Savannah down from our roof. Problem: not her claws, but that she tried to run away from me, and I couldn’y chase her all over the roof.

Looks like a great perch for Schooner. I’m not sure I would trust walking underneath him though.
