Day 35 was another day at Notre Dame – this time, we took a campus tour (not that we needed to take one, having spent years at the school, but it was fun – and informative).

Date: June 4, 2016
Location: Notre Dame, Indiana
Length: 2.0 Miles
Who: Sarah & Paul

This is the Grotto. It’s a 1/7 size replica of the Shrine at Lourdes. The chairs are not normally set up (they were up for one of the alumni Masses). When it’s exam time, all those candles in there are burning bright – students will take any shred of help they can get.

This door at the side of the Basilica (there are other pics of the Basilica in yesterday’s post) is a memorial to the men of Notre Dame who fought and died in World War I – you can see their names on the plaques to either side of the door. Over the door, you can see it is also inscribed “God  Country Notre Dame.” It’s not the official motto of the University, but it’s certainly an unofficial one.

Inside the door above is this light made out of the helmet worn by Father Charles O’Donnell, the 12th President of Notre Dame, and one of the priests from the school who served as a chaplain during World War I.
