Happy Friday! I hope that all of you have had a wonderful week and have fun, relaxing weekends ahead of you! Choppy is spending the weekend with her cousin Izzy. As you will read below, the weekend started off horribly/great, depending on whether you ask the people or dogs involved in the incident that got it going.

On Thursday morning, I took Choppy to my parents’ house for the weekend. They are currently taking care of Izzy, my brother and sister-in-law’s dog, so it promises to be a fun (and exhausting) weekend for the two dogs. My parents? Probably going to fall more into the “exhausting weekend” category.
I stayed at my parents’ house briefly before I was due at work, but when I went to leave, there was no Choppy, and no Izzy. My parents live in the country, and the dogs come and go freely. They rarely wander too far, likely because of the numerous woodland creatures who would enjoy a canine snack should one become available. They sometimes visit the neighbors, who are a fair distance away, but a quick shout usually brings them home.
On Thursday? No one came when I called.
So, off I went in the car to see if I could find the two mischief makers. Ten minutes later, I saw them in a neighbor’s yard, torturing the neighbor dog, who was stuck on his run while they ran freely around him.
In related news, apparently Choppy can be a jerk (I would say the same for Izzy, too, but I know who is the jerk when it comes to that pair).
As soon as they saw me, they knew the gig was up; Izzy quickly got in my car. Choppy decided to lie down before she did, because being a jerk is apparently tough work. She did eventually get in the car, and the dogs were returned to my parents’ house, where they will no doubt find more trouble as the weekend progresses. You’re welcome, Mom & Dad!

UPDATE: In case you didn’t see it in the comments, the dog shenanigans continue. From my mom (“Grandma”): “Izzy and Choppy are now under house arrest after a second adventure yesterday that ended with Izzy being detained and her owners in Chicago called and Grandma needing to go get Izzy. Frankly, I blame Choppy for the incident. Then just a few minutes ago Choppy broke through the barriers I had constructed to keep them on the deck. They are now confined to the house.”

So they have become the neighborhood bulies?! Does Choppy get “time outs” ? 🙂 Hope they were on their best behaviour after….Your mom and dad are 2 brave people.

Choppy has been a neighborhood bully her whole life. She has a bit of a reputation…
And they really are brave.

I try to see the bright side – at least no one is going to attempt to break in to our house, as they don’t want to deal with the dog!

Absolutely true. You have a built in security system for sure. Unless the culprits want to dress her up and then she might actually obey! 🙂

Mob mentality. She may be good on her own, but get a co-conspirtor in the mix = trouble!

Most definitely – Choppy *may* take Izzy on these adventures. Izzy does not take them on her own. Apparently, they had further adventures yesterday after I left that resulted in Izzy being detained.

Earlier this week, our dog was sprayed by a skunk…so it could be worse! We had to run out at 10pm at night to get hydrogen peroxide and baking soda to make a concoction we found online to get the smell off. I still smell it a little on her, but I have something called Skunk-Off coming from Amazon today to spray her off! Country living…

Choppy has (thankfully) never gotten into it with a skunk, though the dog we grew up with did!
Good luck with the continuing attempts to get rid of the smell. Hopefully, once will be enough for the skunk encounters!

Where was Izzy when she was detained?

The Thomas’ on Windermere. Fortunately, it was that family (Bandits’s owners) and not the new neighbors who call animal control immediately.

A small consolation. But a consolation nonetheless!

I’m sure the weekend adventures are not over, as much as my parents would like them to be. I get the feeling they will be happy to be rid of these two…

As my mom said today when I picked up Choppy, “I am not sad to see her go.”

I knew something was amiss yesterday because Choppy came running up the deck and immediately sat quietly at my right foot while Grandma’s cat was already sitting at my left foot.

Maybe they just get along now…
Did Choppy just evade capture? Or did Izzy stick around too long and got caught?

I think Choppy just ran home and Izzy was thrilled to meet someone new. She seemed happy as a can be just sitting in the neighbors arms when I went to retrieve her.

They are bullies – at least until another dog challenges them, at which point they abandon the bullying!
