Choppy has dealt with a lot of change this year, some of which she enjoyed more than others. There’s a new man in her life (still adjusting on that one) and unlike the previous year, we’ve either been at home or my parents’ house most of the year (she’s thrilled about that change – she was never the one who enjoyed the travel).

But this weekend, she had what might be the biggest change of her year so far: two dogs moved in next door.

We discovered this at about the same time Choppy did: she went outside to keep an eye on things, and instead of finding the backyard next to us harboring squirrels, she found it harboring two small dogs.

Something is lurking on the other side of the fence...
Something is lurking on the other side of the fence…

This was when things went downhill, as the dogs all decided they wanted to bark at each other through the wooden fence. Some of the barking seemed like friendly playfulness, but there was definitely an edge to some of it that required intervention.

So, I retrieved Choppy, who came in the house looking both excited and a bit wary of what she had discovered out back.

Also? I’m pretty sure this is a development that she is going to like, even if she becomes mortal enemies of the new dogs. As for me liking it? The jury is still out.

Something tells me this situation is not going to be the most favorite change in our lives this year.
Enemies forever? Friends for life? I’m sure we’ll know soon enough…
