This time of year, we see a lot of ducks and geese in our very wet backyard. But this last week, we had a different large bird visit us – a turkey!
While I was excited to see him, someone was far more excited than me.

A big Bird, Schooner! He didn’t come and ‘gobble’ some birdseed?

I don’t know what he was doing – he never got anywhere near the bird feeders. He just poked around the yard.

He really was – Choppy tends to leave them alone. They are almost as big as her sometimes.

They get huge – Choppy doesn’t mess with them. Some seem almost as big as her.

I think he would learn very quickly some birds are best left alone were he to mess with a turkey.

Our Maine coon cat was bold enough to try it once. You could almost hear the turkey laughing as it deftly lifted off and alighted a dozen feet away. Quite comical!
He was such a bold one. I once saw him chase a fox out of the yard – such a badass! 😀

I’m impressed by the fox chasing – I don’t think you’d see many cats of normal size trying that (or some dogs, for that matter).

Lovely to see what I presume is a wild turkey and not with masses of meat on it as we breed them.

They are much different looking birds in the wild – though around here, we see far more of the wild kind than the domesticated ones.

Hahaha. I think that bird would be able to defend itself against Schooner, but he can dream. It’s cute how he is staring out the door at him.

Schooner would learn a quick lesson if he took on a turkey – a lesson that would likely end with him leaving turkeys along from that day forward!

Most definitely – I’ve been trying for like a year to get a good video of him chattering. It has been far more difficult than I expected.

Oh, I am well aware! We had them in my neighborhood growing up – they started going after kids to eat their lunches as they walked to work. You don’t mess with a turkey!
