Thanks to Elf on the Shelf, Weekend Wildlife went on a bit of a hiatus. But, now that the pesky elf has gone back to the North Pole, we can go back to a more regular posting schedule. So, without further ado, some yard chickens I saw over Thanksgiving in Pennsylvania!
Such happy hens! 🐓

I think they were hoping from a handout from yours truly. They were disappointed (as was I, for not having something to treat them with).

Free range 🐔🐔hens…I need to fire up the oven…😁*Rubs hands in glee* They better watch out for Choppy who might chase the 🐔🐔hens!

Thankfully, Choppy leaves chickens alone – unless, of course, they’re the kind we’re feeding her for supper. In that case, she can’t get enough of them.

My daughter’s Hennies…I think they have 17….have such tasty, deep yellow, yoked eggs…..only laying a few a week at this point…..I look forward to soon eating their eggs

The fresh eggs would be amazing. I don’t think I could ever eat a yard chicken, though – I would be too personally involved with the chicken as a pet.

These are near my mother-in-law’s house – there are several people with yard chickens in her neighborhood. I would love all the fresh eggs, but I would have trouble eating any chickens I raised.

Thank goodness Elf is back in the North Pole…I would not have trusted him with those beautiful chickens…
So lovely to see them running around freely 🙂 Great pic Sarah.

Thanks – I enjoy seeing them on my walks in Pennsylvania. Some of our neighbors in Wisconsin have chickens, but I rarely see them out and about (though I do hear their rooster in the mornings on our walks).
