One thing that I miss now compared to when I was a kid are the dandelions, violets and other assorted flowers that used to bloom so frequently in yards. Now, it seems many more people spray their yards to kill these “weeds,” meaning I don’t get to see them begging to be picked in town. Thankfully, the fields around us still bloom with their spring colors, so it was super easy to find enough dandelions to celebrate Dandelion Day!
(Also, you should check out Sarah at Art Expedition – she’s doing a May Challenge for May holidays – and it’s great!)
And how about an outtake for Saturday – someone was tasting the dandelions. I’ll let you guess which one that was.

Dandelions are such “happy” flowers, and a field of them is amazing! 🙂

They really are – they’re like little bits of sunshine!

Living in a rural area, there are lots of dandelions around here and we don’t celebrate them. LOL I have managed to keep most of them out of the yard by digging them up when they bloom. They really are a pretty flower. I just hate seeing the stems pop up so high right after mowing. Love Choppy and Schooner’s necklaces though. And, I’m guessing Schooner was the taste tester. Am I right? 😉

He definitely did some taste testing. Choppy is more worldly – I’m sure she has eaten and decided not to eat any more dandelions.

Haha munch on Schooner! 🙂

Because we have a lot of bees & respecting bees, I don’t spray chemicals…thus lots of dandy-lions & lots of violets! Dandy-lions are very healthy to eat!

They’re too bitter for me – I wish I liked them, because it would make a nice addition to the diet!

Sweet Schooner we hope you enjoyed the dandelion, we have heard they are quite tasty. Cute photos of you two. Hugs and nose kisses

He only got to taste them for a few minutes – he did not seem to object to them, though!

You need to come to Iowa where they are all practically state flowers 🙂 Love the photos of the kids!

That’s how I feel they used to be around here! My parents still have millions of them, so I do get to see plenty of them. But if they start losing them, Iowa is only a short trip away!

I hope they tasted good Schooner.

He only got a few tastes in before I took them away from him.

Dandelion wine, greens high in Vit. A & C, plus iron, high in pollen protein for bees, and they are decorative art, what’s not to love? 🙂

I’m with you on the wine, but you lost me on the greens – they’re way too bitter for me. I *may* have told our wedding caterer that I didn’t want my guests to have a salad made up of things they could reach over and pluck from my parents’ yard when they suggested a dandelion salad.

They look lovely draped in dandelions. Schooner is too funny taking a little taste test.

It’s a good thing he doesn’t go outside. Who knows what he would eat out there – I’m guessing it would include things he definitely should not eat.

The French name for the dandelion is pissenli. Nuff said.
Oh yes, and many local fields, including that undulating 3000m² that it amuses us to refer to as our back garden, have a very generous coating of them at the moment.

It is appropriate! And thank you for expanding my French vocab this morning.

Correction – pissenlit – FFS (fat finger syndrome).

I must admit to being guilty of getting rid of dandelions in my lawn, but I love to see them, and daisies, growing wild in the fields. 🙂
Great photos of your two – amazingly Schooner is dressed up! 😀

Our lawn is weirdly devoid of them. I get the feeling the previous owners sprayed for them (or really, against them).

It is possible . . . You’ll have to wait and see. Dandelions have a way of spreading around. 🙂

I help them along – many wishes are made on their seeds when I’m walking around!

Very cute – yellow is my favorite color, so dandelions are good with me. 🙂

I used some yellow napkins for supper last night – you were the first person I thought of when I pulled them out!

So very lovely to see these two cuties with their dandelion chains! I loved to make them too when I was a kid 🙂 Maybe we should all start making more things we liked to to do when we were kids, it would surely make for a nice change! And thanks so much for the shout out, Sarah!!! 🙂 I´m perfectly thrilled about it! 😀
And Kudos to Schooner for eating dandelions – they´re quite healthy I believe 😉 Reminds me of the sugar pearls chains and bracelets I enjoyed as a kid which were anything but 😉

It was a lot of fun to make the dandelion chain – it turns out that I am much better at it now than when I was a kid, too. It seem the further development of my hand-eye coordination does wonders for childhood crafts!

As soon as I get the chance I will follow your example! Hope my eye-hand coordination has improved too! 😀

As pretty as they are, whenever I see dandelions and weeds, the first thing that leaps to mind is allergies. We’re finally starting to get into spring after an excruciatingly long winter, and already I’ve been sneezing my head off. 😐

Ugh! I am so happy I don’t have allergies. Everyone who has them looks so miserable these days.
