Whoever gets the translation wins…nothing. Sorry.

Schooner looks a bit surprised or perplexed, lol. Much like me as I try to figure out how to copy and paste the characters into Google Translate, lol. 😉

I don’t think many people are going to understand that one (Choppy included, because it’s not really mean, for once).

“The cat is very sweet and never causes any trouble.” Wait, that can’t be right!

Ha! I don’t think Choppy would say that, even in Chinese!

Bet Choppy never thought Schooner would call her on that. Cats, they’re so unpredictable. 😀

Ni hao ma! (Knee how ma) a greeting like Hello, how are you. You can use in any Chinese restaurant and they will know it.

I actually took years of Chinese in high school and college, and lived in Beijing during my study abroad – that’s one I know well!

This is a trick, DO NOT TRY TO TRANSLATE. Last word on 1st line & last word on 3rd line are obscenities 😮🙈.

That would make the second word on the first line one as well (though it might also just be multiple comments about a cat).

你搞错錯. Aw it’s also national wear a flower day, I had visions of them in daisy chains and stuff!

Oh, that would have been great – the dandelions are out here right now and would have been perfect for making flower chains. I may have to pick some anyway and use it as a fun picture for some other day!

Sounds like we need to plan a Travels with Choppy/Yummy Lummy adventure to Hong Kong!

Yes! Except I don’t speak a word of Cantonese, so I would be useless. We’ll have to go to Beijing or Shanghai. In the latter case, everyone would make fun of the Beijing accent I have.

and like when I have visited Hong Kong and Vietnam, people would come up to me and speak in any dialect and then call me stupid for not being able to speak with them. In Hong Kong, I recalled enough words from my childhood to know when I was being called stupid.
Not that it matters, we’re there for the adventure and excitement and the food!

When I was on study abroad, my two closest friends were both American, but one looked Chinese and one did not. Inevitably, everyone would try to speak to the friend who looked Chinese, assuming she was the translator or spoke Chinese. But it was my other friend who really spoke Chinese well – that never failed to surprise people!

She may not speak Chinese, Schooner, but it looks like she can write it… I’m impressed!

Is what the sign says.
I always wonder why it takes so long to say in other languages…. 😉

It’s actually a Chinese phrase – something like “Black cat or white cat matters not; what matters is whether the cat catches mice.”

That’s a super quote. So? Does he? 🐀🐁🐀🐭
LikeLiked by 1 person
I don’t know – he’s never had the chance to mouse, as far as I know. He’s a pretty good moth catcher, though!
