A question for people who don’t live in the United States (because I don’t entirely trust the general Internet to give me a correct answer): do you have prom? Or is this a uniquely American thing?
I never went to prom, because I didn’t want to go without a date, and I spoke to like three guys in high school (two of whom were not into girls), so it was unlikely anyone was going to ask me out. I did, however, get the fancy dress and go out to dinner with all my girlfriends, so I probably got to enjoy the best parts of the night.
(Also, I know it sort of looks like a fake tiara on Choppy, but that’s real and just balanced in a way that makes it look less-than-real.)
Proms are “alive and well” here in Canada!

Canada was probably the country I was most curious about – it’s little things like this where you sometimes see differences between the two countries.

Hi, I am from Poland and yes, we do have proms 🙂 and I want to experience that again! Great memories.

Thank you for letting me know – I’ll put Poland in the ‘has prom’ category!

Choppy just gave Queen a whole new look. Schooner looks like “get me out of here!” Have a great weekend ya’ll. UK has prom night also. I just looked it up to answer your Q. I don’t live there (but my father was born there – so I feel safe to jump in and represent good ole England.) 🙂

I’ll put the UK in the ‘has prom’ category as well!
That’s actually not a dress Choppy is wearing – it’s one of my tulle slips!

I am laughing my ass off because that dress on Choppy is the EXACT SAME color of my HORRID prom dress that I wore. OMG my dress was a nightmare (my mother made me wear it and it had short puffy sleeves and those swiss polka dots, it was AWFUL!) I went with a dear friend (who sadly, passed away due to heart issues at an extremely young age). He took me I think because he felt sorry for me lol. He was such a sweetheart.

I bet you had a lot more fun with a friend than you would have with a date!
Funny enough, that’s one of my favorite colors – I actually had bright yellow bridesmaid dresses, I just loved them. Of course, they were quite stylish – no poofy sleeves in sight!

Is Choppy going out to dinner? To a Prom? She looks loverly. Hopefully didn’t have to wear heels. I think Schooner is happy he didn’t need to wear a Tux, although w/ his dark fur, a pink or lilac shirt would look very handsome 😹

To prom! And Choppy will wear the heels, she just refuses to walk in them.

I had to click as soon as I saw the heading on this post. I knew Choppy would be adorable. I missed my prom too for the same reason. Things have changed though – my daughter went solo (with friends, no date) to her prom and had a blast. Wish I’d done that too!

Most of my friends went that way – I just refused to go. From what I hear, I didn’t miss much, and now I get to be one of those “I didn’t go to prom” sorts, which has probably given me more mileage than ever going would have!

Oh, gosh, I love it. Choppy has a real tiara and looks like she knows she’s the belle of the ball! Even Schooner is sweet, sporting a bowtie. 🙂 An odd couple, but what the heck, these days, anything goes!
In high school, I was a hippie-chick, so proms were establishment propaganda. ;-D

Ha! At the time, I really wanted to go to mine, but I didn’t want to stand around watching other people get to dance. It ended up being fine – my friends who went alone enjoyed themselves but not hugely so, and I have gotten more conversation mileage out of not going than I ever would have gotten from going!

There was no such thing as prom in my day but it has crept in now as an American import. Even primary schools have proms. We had the school disco!

Primary school prom? That’s one even we don’t have here (well, at least we didn’t when I was in school) – it was just a last two years of high school thing!

Yes, obviously we had to import it then go be better. Or worse depending on your point of view!

Not known as proms in Australia. High school students usually have a ‘formal’. From what I can make out it’s the same thing.
I didn’t go to my high school formal. I was too shy to ask a girl out.

Interesting – I know I had seen my Australian cousins dressed up for some sort of formal event, but now that you say this, I don’t recall any of them calling it prom.

I didn’t go to prom, but I went to a homecoming dance with a group of girlfriends. We wallflowers had fun dancing with each other. The guys lost out. We had a good time without them.

I went to one Homecoming dance – I think as I got older, I blossomed and got bolder about just doing things on my own. I look back on high school now, and think that it was definitely not the environment for me!

High School was pretty rough on most of us. I was a misfit, but I had a group of misfits I hung out with. I wasn’t popular, but we had some good times together.

Same here – and I am actually still really good friends with my high school friends. We get together every month or two for supper, even though there are many little kids running around for two of us and we’re all busy with work and life.

I talk to mine on Facebook and we have dinner at least once a year.

School disco for me, but yes proms have come to the UK. Choppy looks special, just need a tux for Schooner 😊

Another American export! And as soon as I can get Schooner in a tux without requiring a blood transfusion, I will get him in one.

Such a cute couple ❤ Love the tiara 🙂
In South Africa, we don't call it 'Prom', but rather the Matric Dance. Seems like it is one event that is still very popular.

Oh, that’s interesting – it seems there are numerous places with a similar dance, just a different name for it.

Choppy is so good at balancing things on her head. Tippy would never sit that still. The tiara would be on the other side of the room in a flash.

Ha! I think head balancing may be one of those talents a dog is either suited for or not. Choppy isn’t quite as good as some dogs I’ve seen on the Internet, but she’s pretty talented.

Choppy looks adorable! We have proms in Germany but usually not as fancy as in american tv. I didn’t go either to mine for the same reason as you!! But I got myself a nice dress – gosh, I think I still have it somewhere safely hidden in my wardrobe 😂 And before you ask: it was black .😄

Ha! Mine was purple – and definitely it was more fun to do the dress and dinner than the rest. I am glad I did it the way I did!

Me too! 😄 And purple is the new black 😉

Choppy is rockin’ that tiara! Schooner looks a little less thrilled about prom…did anyone call Uber yet?

Well, he is a dude. Choppy probably asked to rent a limo.
