No ducks at the bird feeders today – though I saw my first pair of Wood Ducks this year out on the pond. As you’ll see in the pictures below, though, there were other ducks around.
Walk One:
Date: March 29, 2017
Location: Home
Length: 1.3 Miles
Who: Sarah & Choppy
Walk Two:
Date: March 29, 2017
Location: Home
Length: 1.3 Miles
Who: Sarah & Choppy
It’s always good to survey the countryside from a high vantage point. 🙂

The duck has certainly found his!

HA! On the roof no doubt. Man, you are living the life there with the various critters providing much hilarity and many photo ops ;-). A duck on the roof – there’s a joke in there somewhere I’m sure.

There has to be! I was trying to come up with one, then my mind got stuck on Christmas carols and I knew it wasn’t going to happen. So I went with Christmas.

Is Duck going to fly down the chimney…I don’t see a chimney! Mailbox on the right must be for Choppy’s & Schooner’s fan mail! 😹

He’s pretty obvious if you know he’s there (though I still don’t have a Where’s Choppy post for today, so I’m thinking I should have saved this one and asked Where’s Duck).

Haha, good vantage point to see both the pond/river and the street. Won’t miss a thing.

I didn’t think about that, but it really would be a good way to see both directions – probably the best place on the whole block!

Wow, how does a duck grip the roof with those flat, webbed feet?! I could see them sliding off.

That’s a good question! Perhaps it was one of our wood ducks – they have claws and you see them in trees. We have a lot fewer of them than the mallards, but they came back this week and there are some around.

It has gone far better than I expected – we’re long past that original 30 day goal!

Thank you! It’s been a fun year doing this – and Choppy and I are both the better for it!

I did not see the duck until I read your hint. I wasn’t expecting it to be on the roof!

No one expects a duck on the roof! When I was a kid, one Easter there were ducks in the trees – I’m guessing they were Wood Ducks, and not our normal mallards. Perhaps it’s something about this time of year, it sends the ducks into trees and on to roofs.

I’m pretty sure there is a species of duck, maybe the wood duck, that actually nests in trees. I think that is very odd, but safer than at the edge of a pond, on the ground.

They definitely do nest in trees – we have a fair number around here, because we have woods on the water, plus boxes for them (my next door neighbor has a box). I couldn’t see what kind it was, but I would guess wood duck.

I would not have thought of looking on the roof, Sarah! 🙂

I wouldn’t have either, except that I was there in person and just happened to look up and see him up there!
