As I wrote down my notes for Day 333 of the Dog Blog Challenge (I have notebooks where I keep track of the walks – they’ve become something of a very, very boring diary for me), I realized that we’ll soon be 30 days from getting to a full year of daily, mile-long walks. Originally, this was a 30 day challenge, and I worried we wouldn’t even be able to make it that long. Now, here we are, about to re-complete that 30 day challenge to make it to a full year!
Date: March 28, 2017
Location: Home
Length: 1.3 Miles
Who: Sarah & Choppy
Also, a quick video for one reason only – watch the bottom of the picture window in the back, beyond Schooner’s cat tree. Do you see two little duck heads bobbing up and down? It appears Schooner had quite the Cat Movie today!
I can well imagine that your total mileage for the 12 month cycle is pretty impressive. Well done! 🙂

I have a spreadsheet with it all laid out – I’m going to have to revise that here in the next month so I can do a grand total at the end of the year (assuming I make it!).

Quack, quack! You must be very pleased with your achievement(s) so far, Sarah!

Definitely! Though at this point, it really seems normal to take Choppy out for the long walk. We did a shorter one last night (after our long one in the morning), and Choppy seemed bewildered by it. Hopefully we’ll get a chance to take a nice long one this afternoon (we already did our first Day 334 walk to start the morning).

Hee hee, nice game of peek-a-boo. Congrats on the nearly 1 year mark! Way to go!

Thanks!
The ducks were back this morning – I reset the camera in the hopes of getting some better pictures of them wandering around the bird feeders. That said, I have to go replenish them or they may not return. They were definitely eating seed/peanuts/corn off of the ground.

Ducks are so much cuter than squirrels. 😉

And they aren’t obnoxious about the feeders – they were just picking up leftovers from the ground, not knocking the feeders off of the hangers so as to get at the food in them even easier.

You could have stopped at ‘they aren’t obnoxious.’

Schooner did not look to be all that interested in that particular “channel” on Cat TV ;-). I, on the other hand, am quite smitten with the wild life that wonders in and out of our habitats. So cool. I could have spent quite a few minutes just watching the ducks and been quite content with my day.

At some point this morning, we had those ducks, two geese, a bunch of squirrels and little birds and a visiting cat in the yard – and those are just the animals we could see!

I’ve had a few squirrels bugging the 💩😼 out of me this morning. “Something” is eating a great deal of beefsuet at night. Love to know…probably a possum. Hungry critters!

The possums definitely come to our feeders at night – I think they just root around underneath them, though. I will let you know if I see one going after the suet!

It’s not over till the fat lady sings, or the choppy dog barks in this case I guess! Keep going and well done so far!

You’ve done yourself proud. A great achievement and daily habit that benefits body and mind. Congrats!
Love all the visitors you have – maybe the ducks will nest at your pond?

Our next door neighbor has a wood duck box, so they definitely will stick around (I’m guessing it’s the ones who were here last year). We had baby mallards around last year, too – no idea where they nested, but they were in the pond.

I ❤ baby ducks!

I was going to say they are the cutest, but I just got back from Key West and saw dozens of chicks – they give the ducklings a run for their money! (Note: if I had just gotten back from seeing puppies or kittens, they would also have to go on this list.)

I visited Tractor Supply last week and they had a whole corral of dozens of baby chicks. OMG-cute! (and soooo tempting, but then I rouse myself from the delusional dream of owning chickens…who am I kidding?)

Oh, chick days at Tractor Supply are amazing! We don’t have one around here, but back in Indiana we had one and Rural King, which also regularly had chicks.
And I am with you on the chickens – it sounds like a good idea, but it would definitely not be! Plus, I am pretty sure it would just inviting trouble here on the edge of the country – we’d have every fox and coyote for miles in the yard!

Exactly, hawks, too. Too heartbreaking to lose any, and to keep them in Ft.Knox, nah.

It really doesn’t seem all that long ago that I started – a year goes by faster than you think it does!

Thanks to Schooner for reminding me to stand up and stretch for a bit (from his “workout video”). I guess I should acknowledge the ducks also since they got some head shots in.

Schooner videos like this also remind you to take a nap, as that is clearly what he spends most of his day doing.

Thanks! We’re less than 30 days to the end now – I can’t believe how quickly the year has gone.

You have done amazingly well with the walking! I know that you and Choppy are both better off for it. Congratulations! I was surprised that Schooner seemed fairly uninterested in the ducks peeking in the window. I guess he is used to them.

He must be – either that, or he knows they’re too big for him to take on.
