February is Spunky Old Broads Month!
Tuesday (February 28) is Choppy’s (sort of) Gotcha Day – it’s the day I went to the Humane Society and picked out a little fluffball of a puppy who was contentedly sleeping in a corner of her kennel, already given up for adoption a second time in her life. I wouldn’t be able to pick her up for a few days after that, but that was the day someone put up a blue sign on her kennel to let everyone know that the cute little puppy in that particular kennel was spoken for and had a forever home waiting. That was eight years ago.
Do you know how I remember it was eight years ago? Because I had just turned 30 three days earlier. So today, when I turn 38, I just have to do the subtraction to figure out how long I have had Choppy.
Of course, I don’t think either of us is old – and depending on the day, we may not be terribly spunky, either! But we’ll celebrate Spunky Old Broads Month anyway – because who doesn’t like a spunky old broad?
aww Happy Birthday (belatedly) to you and Happy Gotcha day to Chops, she looks magnificent in her old lady gear, and you both look so happy together. Made for each other 🙂

Thank you! We have certainly had a good life together – I hardly remember what it was like not to have Choppy around!

Love the pictures. No, you are no where hear old! When I think of a spunky old broad, I think of Betty White! Love her!

Happy Birthday Sarah ! and Happy Gotcha Day on the 28th Choppy 🙂 What a beautiful belated birthday present Choppy was for you 🙂 I can just imagine her all curled up in a cute furry ball sleeping. I am so pleased you adopted her and gave her, her forever home.
Your pics are amazing by the way….Choppy certainly can pull off the spunky old broad look 🙂

Thank you! She was a fantastic birthday present to myself – I hope that she feels the same way about having to come home with someone who makes her dress up as much as I do!

Thank you! And we’ll ignore that I posted a nearly four year old picture for this (though I like to think I haven’t changed all that much since then!).

Happy birthday Sarah! I hope Paul, Choppy and Schooner are all spoiling you rotten today. (My expectation isn’t very great with Schooner though…..)

Thank you! I was quite spoiled on my birthday – of course, getting to go away on a long weekend for it always helps!

Happy gotcha day, Choppy. So happy Sarah gotcha. And a very happy birthday to you Sarah. I just love your posts, the photos, the humor, the “where’s Choppy,” the curmudgeon Schooner. Can’t imagine blogsville without ya’ll. Here’s to many many more. ❤

Thank you so much! And we love your blog – I never get tired of looking at all those dogs your books allow you to save. So much good from what you do.

I’m very fortunate I’m able to do this. Being that both my husband and I have professional jobs and no children makes it so much easier to delegate all book profits to go to help rescue dogs. I’m also lucky my books have been doing so well.

They really do – though we try to make the most of them!
And she is much loved – adopting her was sort of a spur of the moment decision, but it is one of those decisions I have never regretted!

I love it – I’m 58, have a 39 year-old daughter and a 34-year-old husband (this engineer that I’ve been hanging out with for 10 years, through thick and thin, including the death of our beloved black Lab Barkley, my stepmom of 30 years (Mom died when I was in school), and my only brother.. Outside of a bad knee from a torn meniscus, I don’t feel any differently than I did at 25, and honestly wouldn’t go back to 30 for anything.

Happy Birthday, Sarah! You’re just a baby. Love the picture of you and Choppy, and I snorted at the one of Choppy in her wig. Very spunky indeed!

I like to think I’ll still be spunky and not feel old for many, many years!

OMG it kills me to think she was given up twice 😦 But then so lucky you found each other! And that wig… perfect 😉

Every time I think that someone wouldn’t want Choppy I get a little teary – but it does mean that I got her, and if someone didn’t want her, far better that she is with me, rather than tied up and mostly forgotten in someone’s backyard.

Yeah, you’re absolutely right 🙂 I guess the lady who gave up Tillie & Elvis was only doing it because she had to move & she knew Tillie wouldn’t cope where she was going, & they’d hate being separated – and now we get to share their lives 😀
