It has been overcast much of January – but we woke up to clear skies at the beginning of February. Even better? Because it was clear, we could see the sun starting to come up by the end of our walk! Spring is coming (whatever the groundhog may or may not say today).

Despite Punxsutawney Phil’s pronouncement, the days are getting longer and spring will arrive officially in 47 days! Besides, what does that rodent know anyway?

Yes! Those 47 days need to pass quickly – I can be done with winter any time, whatever that overgrown rodent may say!

Key West – we love it there. We were thinking of heading elsewhere in the Caribbean this year, but the more we thought about it, the more we just wanted to go back to Key West.
We usually do about 9-10 days – a weekend to weekend. But we also love the Overseas Highway, so we will fly in to Miami/Fort Lauderdale and drive out, which is a couple day process. We need a couple days to ease into island time!

Yep.. we love it there also. We have driven too many times. Last time we just took a puddle jumper from ft. Lauderdale. To KW. , same for going home as well. Saved a lot of time, and we didn’t have to resent a car. And it was only an extra 100.00 for the puddle jumper.:)!
And last year, my friend that I stay with .. we took the ferry to KW from ft.Myers. Just for the day… next time we’ll stay over night;) we only had time for lunch..and back on the boat. Pretty much:)!
I can’t wait to see your photos.

I looked into the puddle jumpers a bit last year when we went – it would be especially good for the trip home, because it’s fun to make the drive when you’re heading to vacation, not so nice when you’re heading home.

Agreed:). I would like to drive once again and take time to enjoy some of the other keys, like Islamorada.

Me too! I think the problem is that as soon as I get into the Keys, I want to get to Key West (well, maybe not as soon as I get there – I could hang out at Alabama Jack’s for a long time. Though I suppose that’s still on the mainland).

Well, Schooner certainly is a good ‘watch cat’ 🙂

In some ways, he is better than Choppy at this job!

That’s somethin’ like a groundhog…. not quite.

Hungry Possum! They are fun to watch, especially when they eat spaghetti 😂 Now I know better than to put food out for wildlife … except beef suet & birdseed.

Spaghetti? I have never heard of them eating it. I may have to try it just to see it for myself!

They pick it up w/ their (front) claws & stuff it in their mouth. 😹🙄

Possums have 50 teeth, good thing Schooner is an indoor kitty 😧

Aw, sad that nasty toothy things have to mean cats stay indoors 😕Wisconsin sounds scary biscuits!

Ha! The possums are the least of Schooner’s worries. The coyotes have been close the last two nights and woke us all up with their racket. Choppy was NOT happy. They would eat a cat in a heartbeat.

Choppy has gone after a fair number in her life. They “die” on her, and magically disappear once she goes back inside. Choppy is none the wiser.

I think Schooner leaves the animal chasing up to Choppy – he is good at delegation.

It’s nice to know that spring is coming, even if it is a little later than normal. It has been an unusually warm winter here so far. Not sure what that will mean later in the year. I’m just looking forward to more daylight hours.

I think we’re having a pretty normal one here – we had colder weather than normal at the beginning, warmer than normal for part of January, and very normal right now. The snow seems pretty average as well. I’m guessing it will all even out in the end for us!

Oh, as much as I hate to compliment the cat, good job in catching the intruder Schooner. 😉

Choppy would never have seen him had Schooner not been on patrol.

Possums can be scary looking with all those little teeth, but I read an article that they munch on ticks, which elevates them to first ranking in my book!

Interesting addition to their “diet.” 😝

Any critter that destroys ticks gets high ranking in my book!

Really? That is awesome. I never mind seeing them (and Choppy is uninterested in them as soon as they play dead on her, so she is no danger to them), but now I will be even happier when they show up!

PS….their eyesight is very poor, how do they find the ticks? 👃🏻 ??

They must smell them somehow.
