Train Your Dog Month? Choppy has the trained thing down. How about training a cat? That’s far more impressive (And yes, Schooner only has one trick. But it’s one more trick than most cats!)

I’m impressed! Didn’t think you could get cats to do anything!

I keep thinking I should work on another trick, but this one is quite impressive to most people – and it took a long time to get him to do it! I am not sure I want to put the effort into a second trick.

Does he fetch? I have a friend whose cat loves to fetch round hair elastics and the plastic circles off of milk jug caps.

He doesn’t, but I think he could be taught it, as he loves to have his toys thrown for him. I will have to look for some videos on teaching fetch (as it came naturally to Choppy – not lab naturally, but she will fetch a couple times before she gets tired of it).

Whoa…are you the cat whisperer?

Not quite – that’s all I have taught him!

Your voice even made Sam sit! LOL

That is hilarious! It’s my ‘make the pets do something by sounding stern’ voice.

He looked at me as if I’d kicked his baby sister. But it was a quick and full on “sit!’ Maybe I should employ the “Sarah” voice when I want him to comply with some command straight away. LOL

It works for me! Choppy certainly gets the difference between it and my regular, probably don’t care, voice.

Schooner may be setting you up here…letting you think some form of conditioning or training has actually occurred. If so, that acting is Oscar-worthy!

Oh, this could be. He might just be unconsciously imitating the dog.

He wasn’t going to sit.. he was about to poop and you interrupted him with a treat. That’s what I believe… 😉

Ha! If so, I am glad I interrupted that particular action.

I love that Schooner shows the ability to obey

(Showing the ability to obey is paramount 😮)

Whether he responds to commands consistently is a question we need to ask Sarah 😃

He does! At least, he does if he thinks I am going to give him something to eat.

I just plugged it into the computer – the title alone amused me. I keep telling Paul I want to teach Schooner to use the toilet!

Hilarious….so then I watched even more videos.

Stuart McLean is incredibly funny. I love that kind of humor! The words he chooses to narrate crack me up!

Thanks! This is all very encouraging to me with regard to teaching him something else.

Very nice! I, too, was impressed that Schooner obeyed, albeit for only a moment. And, I noticed you didn’t offer the treat from your hand like you did Choppy. Don’t fully trust those teeth, do you? Humm?

Not a chance! Plus, he likes them tossed across the room. He has these string treats that he wants you to play with before he eats. Per my many watchings of “My Cat from Hell,” I think it fits naturally in the cat mindset – they normally have to hunt and kill their food, so the chase of the food mimics that.

Aww, Schooner sitting “upon command” is so amazing!! Sarah, I am proud of you, Choppy and finally, Schooner! 🙂

I think so – Choppy provides a good example. Then again, it’s only one trick, so it’s not paying off very well.
