Add Cayenne powder! Yukky for Squirrels, birds don’t mind at all! I wonder if Sriracha squirted on the seed would be OK? 😦😝

I’ve heard various reports on the efficacy of cayenne, but it’s probably worth a try!

You can also buy feed for Critters, that has lots of dried corn kernels in it….fat squirrels love it, sprinkled heavily on the ground away from the birdfeeders.

I already do that – clearly, our squirrels just love to eat.

What do squirrels taste like? If they taste like bacon, I can fix your problem 😋

Actually they are funny to watch. Very aware! Love it when I put food out. Just hungry, like all the others. So often get hit by cars, because they don’t look carefully before crossing the street 😕

Sad about the roadkill, but then kangaroos get hit all the time too.

That, I know, is super sad, here, possums, skunks, deer, turtles, frogs. I don’t understand why people aren’t more careful 😥

We saw a poor, dead fox the other day. I don’t think I had ever seen one of them as roadkill before.

I get very sad when I see dead echidnas and wombats on the side of the road legs up.

I was shocked when I saw my first dead wallaby when in Australia. Everyone else in the car (all Australians) reacted to it the way I react to dead raccoons around here – they paid it no notice.

It’s all too common sadly.

I agree on them being funny – I just wish they would be funny while not eating my bird food!

They are edible – I don’t think I’ve ever had one. I would guess they taste like rabbit.

I like rabbit, possum isn’t too bad either.

Thet say: anything with a pie crust 😱😨😳

Yep, possum pie is very nice 😋😋😋

Your possums, or our possums? Ours are so unattractive, I can’t imagine they taste too good (also, apparently I judge my food’s taste on how it looked when alive).

Our possums. Possums in New Zealand are riddled with TB!

I actually ate squirrel in my younger days. It has a unique flavor. Actually very good stewed. Sorry, but we were poor and needed the food.

A lot of people I have known eat squirrel – even people who don’t need to. Less so up here, but in southern Indiana, it was pretty common.

Mommy Squirrel does not take the best care of them…at least two of them have had their guts pulled out. I’m surprised they haven’t all met this fate.

Schooner is such a good sport. How many takes did it take to get her to sit there like that? I’d have been all day with Tippy. LOL

Choppy pretty much gives me whatever shot I need right away (she has off days, but they are few and far between any more). Schooner…well, Schooner is still a work in progress. And by ‘progress,’ I mean we’re still near the beginning of the process.

I’m sorry that I put “Schooner” in the original comment. I meant Choppy. I do know the difference! Don’t tell Choppy I got her confused with that darn cat! My brain must have been asleep. And, as for Schooner, well…he’s a cat. He will probably always be a work in progress. LOL

I figured that was what had happened! Considering how often I mix up people/dog names around the house, I can’t say anything.

Choppy – do you have any idea what you are dressed as? Now you have to chase yourself! 😀
And seems we always get the visitors we don’t want eating all the food.

I guess it could be worse – we could have bears in the feeders! Up north of here, they can become real pests.

I think Choppy looks seriously disgruntled here. A squirrel! The indignity. You’ll be dressing her up as a cat next.

She definitely does! I was giving it a little re-organization today (not much of one), and realized she has some outfits that I definitely need to break out more!

I love the dog in “Up” who gets distracted every time he sees a squirrel. That’s all I can think of think when I see dog and squirrel together. That, and the fact, that my pup would mow me down to get at a squirrel.

Oh, that is so Choppy! She starts whining the moment you say the word. And she would bowl me over to get at one as well – though not as quickly as she would do so to get at a rabbit.

Our little furry hooligans chew up tender little branches and leave bark all over the sidewalks. Where’s the neighborhood falcons when you need them? 😉

Another great Choppy costume! Doesn’t Choppy chase off the squirrels? Every dog I’ve ever owned took that task very seriously. ;-D

Oh, Choppy takes this task very seriously. Many of those little squirrels are also missing their squeaks.

I use fishing line to hang my feeders, so far, very few squirrels have tried to climb on it.

Oh, that’s a good one! I don’t think that would work with the tree we have in that part of the yard. I will have to consider where else they might work.

A squirrel feeder is the answer here. I’m positive if you put another feed system in place and clearly identify which is which the problem is solved. 🙂

I assume a sign will be adequate to indicate to the squirrels where they should eat? Much like the deer crossing indicates to the deer where they should cross the road?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Exactly. Which is why I’d now like to retract this idea. After some reflection, I don’t have a high degree of confidence the squirrels are that much more advanced than the deer.

I’m going to ponder their relative levels of intelligence. It has to be pretty close, if my studies of their inability to properly cross streets is considered. Just this morning, a squirrel decided to just run in front of our car for like 20 feet. I’m not sure if that is better or worse than the deer standing in the road, wondering if you are going to hit him/her.
