After some encouragement – thanks, Colin – I thought I should give you at least some statistics from the portion of the Dog Walk Challenge that occurred in 2016 – a mini summary of the Dog Walk Challenge from 2016. So here it is!
- We walked 246 of the 366 days in 2016 (yay, Leap Year!).
- This means we walked at least a mile on over 2/3 of the days in the year since I started keeping track in May.
- We walked a total of 444.5 miles in 2016.
- That means, on average, we walked 1.8 miles each day of the Challenge.
The Dog Walk Challenge was meant to be a month long thing, but clearly we’re well past that point now. Thanks to everyone throughout the Challenge for your support and kind comments – I know both Choppy and I are in better shape for this, and I would encourage everyone to start something similar, if for no other reason than your dog or dogs will thank you for doing so!
Now, back to the Day 249 statistics – there were plenty of us on our walk!
Date: January 3, 2017
Location: Home
Length: 1.3 Miles
Temperature: 34° F (1.1° C)
Who: Sarah, Choppy & Izzy
Congrats on your accomplishments! It’s loads of fun walking with 2 dogs who get along! 😁

Fun, but not always easy! They seem to want to sniff far more than twice as much as when I walk Choppy!

Congratulations for the log update. Keep up the good work. Because we do it every day, it’s not quite a ‘challenge’ but a necessity in the dogs’ and my mind. Keeps all of us in shape, both mentally and physically. I credit our normally twice a day walks to keep Sam in great shape. No one believes he’s 11 now!

I am amazed almost every day how much better Choppy looks now that we are getting in longer walks. I have walked her every day since I got her, but they were shorter walks the last few years. These longer ones make a huge difference!

Way to you you two! (on the walks) And such a cute photo of Choppy and her bestie Izzy. 🙂

Thanks! The two of them have spent a lot of time together recently. I think they are happy for the break now (Izzy is at my parents’ house now).

Wow – Sarah you inspire me. You have encouraged me to do some type of walking challenge also once my surgery is over and I start my recovery. I am extremely impressed with your stats. Keep it going, and I hope to start soon. 🙂

New Year’s Resolution – start walking more. Good advice for all. Well done Sarah and Choppy…and of course Schooner’s special guest star Izzy.

It is funny – once I started, it is hard to stop. I no longer look for the closest spots at the store, I don’t mind walking between stores at outdoor malls, etc. I think you’ll enjoy walking more!

Those are some great stats to be proud of, Sarah. Mental, as well as physical, fitness is the benefit. Easy to make a habit, with such rewards. 🙂
Izzy seems like an enthusiastic participant, too!

444.5 miles. Wow! Mom takes me for a walk every day, but we don’t go far. Maybe we’ve gone 444.5 inches…. She really should step up her game.
Love and licks,
Cupcake

Congratulations on all of those walks and miles put in! You have to be in better shape after that! I am trying to start wogging (walking/jogging) again, at least 5 days a week, with the goal of jogging for 30 minutes straight in 7 more weeks. Then, I’ll keep it up. In addition, I take Tippy for a 1.1 mile hike most days. I really need to get in better shape and lose some weight.

Oddly enough, I feel like I am in better shape, but I don’t think it has made any other physical change. Now, Choppy? She looks amazing. That is enough physical change for me to be happy!
