So…I had some issues Sunday night at the local Taco Bell/KFC franchise.
It all started off innocently enough. Paul and I had just returned from a trip to Indiana. After unpacking and four hours of driving, fast food seemed like a good option. So, off I went to the local Taco Bell/KFC while Paul finished cleaning up our tailgating items.
I arrived to see a drive thru line snaking out past the drive thru speaker. As I spent 21 minutes last week waiting in the drive thru line for the always delicious Taco Bell at this particular location, I decided I should probably go inside to procure our KFC for Sunday night, because clearly this is a franchise that has some issues with their drive thru.
I thought this was a good decision at the time.
In retrospect, perhaps the fact that I waited 21 minutes to get drive thru Taco Bell last week should have suggested to me that the entire place has some issues.
Order placed, and with no comment on any particular timing issues for food from the cashier, I took a seat to wait an expected few minutes to obtain my finger-lickin’ good supper.
Let’s turn to Twitter to see how things worked out for me…
Ordered my food at Taco Bell/KFC AT 7:19. It is now 7:47. 28 minutes and counting for fast food. #notsofastfood @tacobell @kfc
— Sarah & Choppy (@travelswithchop) October 31, 2016
Note: this is when I should have cut my losses and headed for McDonald’s. I didn’t. That’s seven years of higher education at work right there!
Clearly, I really like chicken and cheap Mexican food, because I have passed the 30 minute mark and continue to wait. @tacobell @kfc
— Sarah & Choppy (@travelswithchop) October 31, 2016
Bored, I procured some Taco Bell packets and tweeted those out.
When am I getting my food? #never. @tacobell @kfc pic.twitter.com/k80owbwd0A

Cheers! Because clearly, alcohol is the solution to this problem. #alcohol #cheers @kfc @tacobell pic.twitter.com/xT7n1Dgh9Y

Then things got bad for one of my fellow adventurers in this quest to obtain Taco Bell and KFC.
The guy next to me just got told they no longer sell the Doublicious – he had been here at least 20 minutes. @kfc @tacobell
— Sarah & Choppy (@travelswithchop) October 31, 2016
Note: According to the KFC website, the Doublicious is most definitely still available as a menu item. Methinks the kitchen staff just didn’t want to make one for this fellow. Meanwhile, in sauce packets…
Perhaps. I might still be waiting. @kfc @tacobell #48minutes pic.twitter.com/mBs0N0MB8x
— Sarah & Choppy (@travelswithchop) October 31, 2016
And then, hope!
They just called out an order for Sarah. It wasn’t me. 😥
— Sarah & Choppy (@travelswithchop) October 31, 2016
Nevermind.
Life is short. I am spending the rest of mine at this Taco Bell. #SendHelp #OrFood #NotPicky @kfc @tacobell pic.twitter.com/OZzRjakaQN
— Sarah & Choppy (@travelswithchop) October 31, 2016
And then I ran out of sauce packets for which I could think of amusing things to say.
53 minutes…will we hit an hour? The world waits…and so do I. So do I. @kfc @tacobell
— Sarah & Choppy (@travelswithchop) October 31, 2016
Unsurprisingly, hour one came and went.
One hour!! They did just refund my money without me asking. So there is that. @kfc @tacobell
— Sarah & Choppy (@travelswithchop) October 31, 2016
Do you want mac & cheese? Too bad, so sad.
They are out of Mac & Cheese. They just told a woman who has been here longer than me. She just laughed. Because…what else to do?
— Sarah & Choppy (@travelswithchop) October 31, 2016
But wait, the food woes are not over!
Out of chicken legs! But they are up to the order two ahead of mine. Soon… @kfc @tacobell #65minutes
— Sarah & Choppy (@travelswithchop) October 31, 2016
Considering this Taco Bell once told us they were out of ground beef, this should not have been surprising. And yet, it was.
The waiting continues…
This location needs one of those amusement park signs: Your food is 67 minutes from this point in line. @kfc @tacobell
— Sarah & Choppy (@travelswithchop) October 31, 2016
I am running out of things to Tweet about. Either that, or I am getting light-headed from a lack of food. #hungry @kfc @tacobell
— Sarah & Choppy (@travelswithchop) October 31, 2016
— Sarah & Choppy (@travelswithchop) October 31, 2016
Patience is a virtue! That said, I was pretty sure this guy took his life into his own hands when he made this move.
One of the employees just came out for a soda. I don’t think that should probably be his priority right now. pic.twitter.com/OT2UgpjuGm
— Sarah & Choppy (@travelswithchop) October 31, 2016
And then…80 minutes later…SUCCESS!
FOOD!!! 80 minutes! #sohungry #needtoordermorefood @kfc @tacobell pic.twitter.com/EQNIcuzRSZ
— Sarah & Choppy (@travelswithchop) October 31, 2016
Well, sort of.
Me at home: I didn’t check the order, because I wasn’t going to wait for them to correct it.
*Checks food* That’s not crispy! pic.twitter.com/tjQtJtQ0Gz
— Sarah & Choppy (@travelswithchop) October 31, 2016
A Twitter postscript:
In related news, I *probably* won’t be recommending that particular Taco Bell/KFC location in the future. @KFCBarstool @tacobell

I think they have to re-think their definition of “fast food”…

It was OK – I prefer the crispy chicken and got the non-crispy. At that point, though, I would have been happy with anything!

I think we all sort of gave them the benefit of the doubt – like, how could it possibly take so long? And then you get to the point where you’ve waited so long, you can’t imagine it will take longer. Then it does, and you can’t go, because you’ve already waited so long you can’t justify giving up now!

Yikes, that’s awful. Last Friday I went to my local KFC, walked up to the counter, asked for a 21 piece bucket and within 2 minutes my order was filled and I was walking to my car. I put the bucket into the front passenger seat and secured it with the seatbelt.

Oh, I think they will be getting a strongly worded letter. I actually think the franchise is the problem here, based on some of the problems that night and on another visit. I think the franchisee is trying to cut corners to save money, and that’s the major reason the store has troubles.

That was sooo funny, but sad, as well. I’m just about speechless. How embarrassing that their address is so available. I don’t eat “fast food” it is way too disgusting. Seriously. Have some nonGMO tostitoes with redpepper, olives & cheese & sourcreme handy. Salsa, too. Much better!

We have a lot of them in smaller towns in the Midwest – I don’t think they are quite large enough to support one or the other, but a combination works.

I don’t think I would’ve waited that long! I wouldn’t have been able to keep my mouth shut. The KFC’s around here have really slipped in terms of quality. The chicken looks more like pigeon. It’s horrendous and tiny.

I could have caught, gutted and cooked a chicken in that time. Was it hot? Terrible service, and I thought we had it bad in McDs once when they had their new self order boards installed.
LikeLiked by 1 person
I could have almost raised the chicken to adulthood at that speed!
And the food was actually warm. I sort of feel like they were making each meal, one at a time, rather than having food already made up.

I read somewhere that they can’t batch cook anymore as they had to throw so much away. Our McDs with the self ordering stations is actualy pretty efficient now, you actually get your piping hot order delivered to your seating are. Shouldn’t have it I know, but when we got the ‘bad news’ thought Sod It.

Great day in the morning! Eighty minutes!? Were they plucking chickens in the parking lot? LOL! I had a similar experience at a local Burger King several years ago. I did not wait 80 minutes, though. Maybe closer to half that. BK’s in my neck of the woods routinely run out of normal things… like hamburger buns and ketchup. What hamburger fast food chain runs out of buns? Good grief…

This particular Taco Bell once ran out of beef – clearly, it has issues!

Wow, you are patient! Your experience could be considered surreal enough to be part of the Twilight Zone. Along those lines, perhaps your reality and that of Bluto Blutarski merged just long enough while you were waiting 80 minutes for the wrong order, for that classic line to resonate in your universe. “Seven years of college (& 80 minutes @ KFC) down the drain.”

Thank God, Choppy & Schooner don’t tweet. Choppy would be like “I could learn cooking in those 80 mins taken by Taco Bell for a single order, which I’d call Taco Hell henceforth”..
Thereon, “80 mins to complete our order? Looks like Schooner could make a bright career here. So bright that I’d have to wear anti-glares all the time”.
To which Schooner might backfire “Choppy thinks she created the Heaven and the Earth”. 😛
