The daughter’s cat up and left one day for better food elsewhere in the neighborhood. We still see here around occasionally. That’s cat loyalty for ya.
We had a neighborhood dog in Tulsa. He lived at the other end of the block. He spent Tuesday afternoons at our house. Why Tuesday? That was garbage day! He would follow the garbage men down the street, getting all the free treats he could gobble up from the neighbor’s trash. The garbage men loved him. Yes, he was a Lab too. We lived at the end of the block. When he was full, and the truck was leaving the neighborhood, he would come to our house to visit our retrievers, get some water, and take a nap.
On nice afternoons, we would all walk back down the block with him. Neighbors would stick their heads out the doors, and ask if he was ours. “No.” Then we found out the rest of his schedule. “On Mondays he comes here for lunch.” Or, “We see him every Thursday for breakfast.” He was a real character. But he always went home at night. After all, that’s where his boy lived!
I love that he had a schedule! What a great dog. I don’t think Choppy would roam too far if given free reign of the neighborhood – she regularly wants to go out on the front lawn and sit and watch the world go by. She could wander off, but unless she sees a bunny, she just sits there.
Now, the dog I had growing up, who was probably a border collie mix, he could roam. All of our neighbors knew him, usually better than they knew us! Of course, he wasn’t the pleasant dog like the one you mentioned; he was out barking at other dogs and causing whatever trouble he thought would be fun that day.
Thanks for the link!

He was just attempting to eat my clothing. He really can’t be tamed.

Schooner: you “can’t be” or you “don’t want to be?” 😹 I think everyone should keep a little “wild side.”

Good question! I don’t know if we’ll ever get an answer from him on that one.

I think a month of corny cat jokes may help tame Schooner

Ha! This is a good thought! Now, whether I can get her to smile for the corny jokes is a whole different matter.

He is! See, even I get their sexes messed up. This is why I never care when anyone else does it!

Haha, It bewilders me that I care, normally I don’t but I have respect for Choppy’s femininity and Schooner can only be a boy….

I appreciate that someone is keeping an eye on it, as it seems even I can’t be completely bothered!

No one tames a cat. The cat just decides to tolerate our company for a while.

Exactly. I’ve never heard of a dog doing the same. Sure, they will make rounds and get their food from others, but they always come back home.
